There’s Something Special About a Eurasier

Meet The Eurasier

Beautiful, intelligent, devoted—and just independent enough to keep you humble. The Eurasier is a remarkable companion known for a calm nature, expressive personality, and deep devotion to family.

They form incredibly strong bonds with their people, tend to be reserved with strangers, and often seem to understand far more than we give them credit for. They aren't a breed that needs to love everyone. Their people are their world—and that's part of what makes them so special.

History of the Eurasier

A Breed Created for Companionship

The Eurasier is a relatively young breed with a remarkable history. Its story began in Germany in the 1960s, when Julius Wipfel set out to develop a beautiful, balanced family companion—one with a calm temperament, natural dignity, and a deep devotion to its people.

Wipfel began by crossing the German Wolfspitz with the Chow Chow, creating a breed initially known as the Wolf-Chow. In 1972, the Samoyed was introduced to broaden the breeding foundation and further refine the breed's appearance and temperament. The result was a distinctive dog combining the qualities of its three founding breeds.

In 1973, the breed was officially recognized by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) and given the name Eurasier, reflecting its European and Asian ancestry. From the beginning, careful attention was given not only to physical appearance, but also to temperament, health, and suitability for family life.

More than fifty years later, that original vision remains unchanged. The Eurasier was developed above all else to be a devoted family companion—a dog meant to share everyday life with its people. It is this balance of sound structure, distinctive character, and unwavering family devotion that we are committed to preserving at Rosewood.

So, What Is a Eurasier Really Like?

Reserved by Nature

Smart, Sensitive & Surprisingly Opinionated

The Ultimate Velcro Dog

Eurasiers aren't the type to greet every stranger like a long-lost friend. Naturally reserved, they prefer to observe and decide for themselves. But with their families, they form extraordinarily deep bonds, offering a quiet, unwavering devotion that makes them such special companions.

Eurasiers want to be wherever their people are—following you from room to room, curling up beside you, and making sure they're included in everyday family life. Affectionate and deeply attached to their families, they thrive on companionship and generally aren't happiest when left alone for long periods.

Eurasiers are remarkably intelligent, sensitive, and intuitive. They seem to notice everything—from your mood to the smallest change in routine. Quick to learn but independent thinkers, they often have their own opinions about how things should be done. Life with a Eurasier means appreciating a dog who is as thoughtful as they are devoted.

So. Much. Personality.

Warning: One May Not Be Enough

Smart, Sensitive & Surprisingly Opinionated

Despite their calm nature, Eurasiers have personality to spare. Silly, playful, stubborn, cuddly, dignified, and sometimes downright dramatic—all in the same afternoon! Each has their own expressions, quirks, and little habits that make them wonderfully individual. Life with a Eurasier is rarely dull.

Wear the Fluff With Pride

And then, of course, there's the fluff! Eurasiers have a beautiful double coat that sheds year-round, with heavier seasonal shedding once or twice a year. Regular brushing helps keep the tumbleweeds under control, but a little fur on your furniture and clothing comes with the territory. Around here, we wear our Eurasier fluff with pride.

Eurasiers have a way of multiplying! Once you've experienced their devotion, humor, and extraordinary personalities, it's hard not to imagine life with another. They come with opinions, boundaries, and an impressive amount of fluff—but they also have a remarkable way of finding a permanent place in your heart.

More Than Just a Beautiful Dog

To know a Eurasier is to appreciate a dog of remarkable depth and character. Behind that beautiful face is an intelligent, sensitive, and deeply devoted companion who becomes an irreplaceable part of family life.

It's a special kind of bond—and one that makes the Eurasier truly unforgettable. Perhaps that's why so many families discover that one Eurasier simply isn't enough. Once you've experienced their devotion, quiet humor, and unmistakable personalities, it's hard not to imagine welcoming another into your heart and home.
